Science Behind It

Now is the time for scientists to investigate into the total reality of life without excluding consciousness.”
—Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

“Violent behavior is rooted in brain functioning, which is impaired by individual and societal stress. The Global Peace Initiative reduces stress throughout society and restores balanced neurological functioning in the individual and peaceful and harmonious behavior in the whole population.” John Hagelin, Ph.D., Quantum Physicist, President, Global Union of Scientists for Peace

Five Scientific Principles behind the Global Peace Initiative

  1. Behavior is linked to brain functioning.
  2. Stress impairs the brain, which negatively impacts behavior.
  3. Societal stress fuels crime and social violence.
  4. Transcendental Meditation reduces traumatic stress in the individual.
  5. Group meditation has been shown to reduce societal stress, reducing crime and social violence.

The Global Peace Initiative has already been proven to work.

What is the fundamental cause of violence?

EEG recordings show how the practice of Transcendental Meditation changes brain wave functioning during meditation and leads to greater brain integration in activity.

Science has now determined that all behavior is rooted in the brain, and that traumatic stress impairs brain functioning causing aggressive and violent behavior.

Similarly, the buildup of stress on a collective level, including political, religious and ethnic tensions, affects the brain and behavior of everyone in society and bursts out as social violence in all its forms from crime to terrorism to war.

The Global Peace Initiative’s approach is to dissolve the stress that’s at the basis of violent behavior.

Extensive research has demonstrated that a simple meditation practice—Transcendental Meditation®—dramatically reduces individual stress and its damaging effects on the brain and behavior.

Remarkably, when Transcendental Meditation is practiced by large groups of people, a measurable effect is created in the surrounding population. This effect reduces collective stress in society as evidenced by significant reductions in crime rates, terrorism, war deaths and other forms of violence and conflict.
