THE NEED — WHY A NEW APPROACH?

War, terrorism and crime inflict a harrowing cost on our global family. Each year global violence claims tens of thousands of lives, many civilian, with millions more displaced and traumatized, and consumes trillions of dollars in expenditure and damages.

Conventional approaches to reducing violence and conflict have been ineffective because they do not address the underlying cause: acute societal stress, including political, religious and ethnic tensions. Without alleviating the build up of stress in the individual and society, any efforts to achieve peace — whether through diplomacy, negotiations or use of force — will at best be only temporary.

The Global Peace Initiative takes a fundamentally different approach.
